Blog

It's been a busy weekend. I mentioned that over here we celebrate Easter on the Eastern calendar, so this past weekend included lots of festive moments. In the collage below you can see that we enjoyed an outdoor morning service followed by a picnic breakfast, decorating eggs, looking for candy and a delicious Easter dinner. And of course Toby had a festive Easter bow! It was a great weekend.

Easter

In site news, I have two things to announce. First, I've opened a little store where you can purchase my Amsterdam Kit in its entirety. I just don't have enough time to release everything I make as a freebie for you, so this way if you're interested in the whole kit you can purchase it and help me out a little in the process! Right now just the Amsterdam Kit is up, but in the future I'll be offering new ones. If you're interested in a kit from the past, leave a comment and let me know and I'll see about putting it up.

Last by not least, I have a new exclusive freebie up on Facebook, so if you're a fan of Pixel Scrapper head on over there and pick that up. And if you're not a fan yet, it's not too late! Just click "like" and you'll get access to the exclusive freebie as well!

Have a great Monday everyone!

Congratulations to Dianne for winning the Amsterdam Contest. If you were really hoping to win, I've set up a little store here where you can buy the complete kit, since not everything always makes it online as a freebie. In a few days I'll be having a new give-away on Facebook, so stay tuned!

And Happy Easter to everyone. Here we celebrate Easter on the Eastern calendar, so it's not too late to wish everyone a happy holiday!

It's time for a new kit and contest here at Pixel Scrapper, this time a visit to Amsterdam. I was only there for a few days, but I have great memories of picnics and people enjoying the sun. If you'd like the win the elements and papers for this kit, leave me a comment on this post and I'll choose a winner on Saturday. Stay tuned for more contests and of course the new freebies daily!

Starting next week a new kit will be appearing on the site, this time from my travels in Amsterdam. Besides the freebies on the site, I'll be offering various contests to win the entire thing, but one easy way to get special, exclusive freebies is to sign up for my newsletter. Next week will have a special new release freebie, so be sure to sign up before Tuesday if you're interested in that! The sign up is in the right sidebar and you can easily unsubscribe at any time.

Making your own ledger papers, notebook papers and grid papers in Photoshop is easy, you just have to be aware of a few speical tools.

ledger-paper-screenshots01

This first tool isn't really all that special, and you probably know about it already, but I used Photoshop for an embarrasingly long time before my husband pointed out the line tool to me. Then my life was changed.

Using the Shape Tool (ctrl+U) you can make more than just a rectangle! Change the shape in the menu by clicking on the shape you want, rectangle, rounded rectangle (another favorite), circle, many sided shape, line, and custom. Seriously life changing when I realized there was more than just the rectangle. Also, you can download custom shape files to get lots of cool shapes. This is ony of my favorite sites for free custom shapes.

The first arrow allows you to make the shape a set size, or with the ability to be modified. I prefer the simple single size shape. The second arrow allows you to change the width of the line.

To make ledger paper I make one line and then duplicate it a bunch of times. (To duplicate a layer right click on it in the layer panel and choose "duplicate" or else use the shortcut ctrl+J.) The next tool allows you to evenly distribute them across the page.

Put the first line and the last line in the place on the page where you want them to be. In your layer palette select all the layers and then using the Move Tool (ctrl+V), click on the circled icon above. This will evenly distribute your lines vertically. The icon to the left will distribute them evenly horizontally. These distribute buttons are really genius for getting things evenly spaced. The group to the left allows you to bring them all to the same top point, middle point or bottom point. Try selecting a bunch of layers and using these buttons to see what happens.

After realigning the lines I duplicate them all and rotate the new layers 90 degrees and then you'll have a grid. Try varying the width of lines and the space between to make interesting ledger papers.

I love pretty much anything that involves vintage ledger papers. I love to make them and I love to use them. Later in the week I'll share a tutorial on making your own ledgers in photoshop. For now, check out this great Pinterest board of ledger paper inspirations.

Trying to get a bullet in Photoshop? Want to put a real heart in your comment? Getting those special symbols can be a real trick, and the best method I've found is this site: Copy Paste Character. Just click on the symbol or special character you want and it copies it to your computer clipboard and then paste it wherever you want it, in Photoshop, in your comment, or wherever. Also, you'll be surprised by all the special characters there are: a , an ✈, and ※...Don't forget to check out the little drop down menu in the center for more symbol options. ❤

I zip all my files with .7z compression because it makes the files smaller, which means cheaper running costs for me and faster downloads for you. You may need to install a program to unzip these files:

For Windows: 7-zip, AlZip

For Mac: Zipeg, Stuffit Expander

If you're a fan of Pixel Scrapper on Facebook now there's a special freebie just for you! If you visit the Pixel Scrapper Facebook page, click on the "letter A" and it will take you to the download page. If you're not a fan yet, don't worry, just click "like" and you'll have access to this great alpha freebie as well. Periodcially I'll be changing the freebie on Facebook, so if you're interested in exclusive freebies, be sure to stop by!

Starting today I'll be releasing new freebies for my Belgium Kit. Belgium is famous for their comic book art, and I took inspiration from that to choose my color palette. I had a really wonderful time in Belgium, enjoyed their food a bit too much! Chocolate, french fries and beer. It's amazing we made it out! I hope you enjoy these new freebies. And to kick things off I have another little contest for you! For this one I'm offering the set of the patterned papers and the elements. In the next couple of weeks I'll be hosting some different contests for the other elements. So stay tuned. But if you're interested in those patterned papers and the elements for this Belgium Kit, just leave me a comment here. Thanks for stopping by! I'll pick a winner on Saturday.
