Every once in a while I come across something so simple and helpful that I wonder how I couldn't have known about it sooner. I figured I'd post them here, since while some of you have figured these out, I hate to leave anyone else in the dark :).

This first one is how to put a border on something quickly. Often I want a white border on a photo, or an outline on a tag. I used to have a very complicated method of doing it. Now, I've realized you can just use the stroke in layer styles. The key to getting a border without rounded edges is to set the style to stroke INSIDE the layer rather than outside. Change this where it says "position." You can also make the border whatever width and whatever color. And it's easily changed! (click on the photo to see it larger)
