Designer Challenge Part 1/7- Inspiration Board - Deadline Feb 18th

This challenge is a part 1 of 7 separate challenges that go together. After finishing all of them you will have a complete mini kit ready to share with scrappers all over the world smiley.

First we will start with creating inspiration/mood board. You will need it for the next weeks' challenge. Few weeks ago Marisa shared with us post about how she creates a mood board for her new bundles. If you missed that post, you can read about it here.

When I create my own collections I start with color palette and/or theme and then I go to Pinterest smiley or google image search and look for inspiration.

Your challenge for this week:

- create a mood board for your next kit.

In your mood board include color palette, photos or sketches that inspired your theme.

Here is a mood board I created for march blog train.

Check next week for part 2 of this challenge.

Great challenge! Start us off on the right foot!

Hey all, I'm going to skip my challenge this week so you can get started on this, then I'll post complimentary challenges with Ania so you can make a mini kit!

Marisa that is genius idea smiley

I agree that it's a good idea, I find two challenges a week leaves me little time for other stuff smiley
Mood board... what an interesting idea... (it'll be interesting to see too how much I follow, or not, the board!)
Thanks Ania!

France, the board is an inspiration it doesn't have to be followed. It should give you an idea of what do you want your kit to look like, how it makes you feel when thinking about it. I can't wait to see what theme you are going to come up and to see your mood board.

Ah, I get it now Ania, mood to get you in the mood to make things (I only have two kits under my belt so it's all new and very exciting to me; and you and others here are so kind and generous in your explanations! thank you!!! I feel like I'm on a speed learning team!
and loving it!)

Okay, now this is interesting. I've never done a board, but creating a secret board on Pinterest is a great idea to throw all the ideas into one place. Seems like I'm on the right track with my thinking when it comes to a kit as I kinda do that in my head when it comes to putting a kit together. Although, thankfully, doing the blog trains helps a lot since a theme is pretty much laid out.

@France - boy, I hear you on the time thing! I'm in so many rabbit holes with the challenges here, tweaking my blog, doing the challenges Ania has on FB, etc. (not to mention taking care of my :cough: :cough: farm on FV2 lol). But I love all that Ania is helping us learn how to do - I need the direction!

Thanks, Ania, love this!

-Lisa

Oh thank you Lisa, I'm so glad that you see this and other challenges helpful. That is what I hoped for when I started our Facebook group and joined DigitalScrapbook.com year ago. I improved my skills, started my own business and now I'm here helping smiley

Lisa you said: "Although, thankfully, doing the blog trains helps a lot since a theme is pretty much laid out" - I agree with you it is much easier when you have the color palette and a theme given to you smiley I love that and many times I got inspired because I fell in love with the color palette and the theme that I created whole collections. But there are times when I just want to create something of my own. Start to finish, and this is where this challenge comes in handy, as designers we should look for our own themes and color palettes that inspire us. I just had an inspiration few days ago: California dreamin' kit and now it's just on me smiley from start to finish and I will work on it while following this challenges.

I can't wait to see what everyone here will create.

ooh, can we find out more about your other challenges Ania?

Ha, do you mind if I play along with this one? I need to jumpstart my bundle and making a mini to go with it may help me finally start (and finish) this one. I have my moodboard, just need to upload - but weekends are family time, so I won't upload untill Monday...

@Ania, you have no idea how helpful all this has been!! I sometimes feel if I had started out being a scrapper, THEN got into this, I might understand some things a bit better. Since I'm coming in "backwards" lol, I appreciate all the help. When I made web sets, I only sold a few sets (everyone wants it for free, of course). But designing things to sell has been something I've wanted to do for awhile. I just love, love, love digital designing and this seems to be the biggest niche right now. If anyone knows of another outlet that I might be better suited for, don't hesitate to throw it out there. smiley

I'm with you on creating a kit from start to finish in my head. I've looked a a zillion kits, all the time wondering, how'd they think of this or that? lol I created my Secret Board on Pinterest last night and am going with an Easter theme since that should put it done in time to get it up for Easter. Will try to get a screenshot up later.

Hi Melo!!! smiley

-Lisa

Yay Melo!

Melo, I'm so excited to have you here. Your kits are amazing and I can't wait to see your creations along the way.

France, So I have ruff draft for the future challenges and I guess I can give you a sneak peek:

week 2: elements
week 3: papers
week 4: journaling cards
week 5: word art
week 6: quick page
week 7: preview of whole kit

Quick question, would you suggest making the mood board on my actual business pinterest account, or personal? Would it be unprofessional to put this onto my Kandi Scraps Pinterest account?

Nicole, You can always make the board secret and decide later if you want to. I would actually create board called kit inspiration and have it visible. Here is my California dreamin' board I created just for this challenge and I have it on visible on my business boards. It brings more of you as a person not as a business. If you know what I mean?

@Ania (I meant FB challenges, because someone mentioned them, not this one! LOL! but I like knowing what I'm in for anyway so that's really good!)

France, few weeks ago I created Digi Business Mastermind Group on Facebook where we work on improving our digi businesses. You can read a little bit more about it here

Do we post our mood board here or just do it on pinterest?

I totally get it, thanks!! smiley

Step 1: done! *happy dance*
It's not as clean as yours Ania smiley but it has all what I wanted in there (and I deleted 3 colour palettes and about 6 images from my pinterest board.

Those colours always make me happy so I thought I could do something with it. Now off to look for a copyright free photo of a cow's skull because the one I wanted my dad to photograph doesn't exist anymore smiley

Linda I would encourage you to post your mood board here like France did above.

France I really like your board, especially the staples you connect everything. together. Great board and what is important it is your personality coming out in it. I can't wait to see what you will make for our coming challenges.

I was so tired when I did this.. So it is a mess. But this is what I started with on my board!

Nicole, I love the quote on the top. This is definitely good starting point smiley

Thanks Ania! it felt disconnected without the staples! I have no idea how it'll end up, but it'll be a fun ride!!! smiley
Nicole, I like your board! I love that print on top of the dictionary page!

Thanks! I've been adding more to it this morning, while working on my blog train kit. This is actually a great idea that I think I will use more often. smiley

Thought I would also give this challenge a try. This is my inspirational board:

Aurellija this is an awesome board. I loe running and I want to see what you will create along the way smiley

Ania, thank you - i hope to come up with something usefull, pretty an dinteresding and also to motivate myseft to begin my workouts again smiley

France what size did you do your mood board originally? Thanks!

France ... I LUV this board ... it's funny because I was thinking along the same lines but then didn't have time to do anything so decided to leave it for now .... yours is gorgeous and now I know why it wouldn't work for me ... it's yours lol smiley
