Apr 2024 LC - Surprise Challenge

For this monthly challenge we will have something different each month. Sometimes we might explore a technique, a pattern, texture, theme, or something else entirely. Hopefully, you will find it keeps it fresh and helps to inspire you in your projects!

This month lets explore the Out of Bounds (oob) technique which has been around for some time, though I admit I have not used it much. The technique is where part of your photo extends out of the frame or bounds of the photo. A very specific part of a photo like an arm, or the entire subject, is cut out of from the background. It's a wonderful way to add some visual interest and dimension to your layouts! If you do an internet search on "Out of Bounds tutorial" you will find many tutorials out there on how to accomplish this.

The first layout from Kimmie shows sand spilling out of the frame and onto the paper as well as part of the child goes outside of the frame. Then Erin's layout shows the paws of the cat coming out of the frame. Lastly, the layout from AMarie, has her grandchild's arms outside of the circle frame. All of these are great examples of the OOB technique.

Challenge: This month's challenge is for you to use the Out of Bounds technique in your layout.

Most of all have fun!

Let me try...

This is my first ever try of doing an 'out of bounds' LO...

Thank you, Jessica, for this was a real challenge for me and took me out of my comfort zone. I was in two minds as to whether I wanted to have a go at it or not as I wasn't at all sure if I was willing to set time aside to learn how to do it or have the patience to go through the bother of a tutorial. But then it was a "challenge" I told myself and tried it. Not all that good or professional-looking LO but I was immensely pleased with myself!

Thank you again for this challenge!

*Edit* 12/04:This 2nd one was a trial in PowerPoint and tweaked in PS, but not sure how realistic it looks!:

I think your new LC idea is excellent, Jessica. I'm glad you're now also a moderator.

I’ve been wanting to try this kind of technique - thanks for the challenge, Jessica!

Finally got around to trying this, and finding it fitting that the photo I found for my OOB features my kid that would be most likely to jump out of frame if he could. smiley
