Journaling: August 2005 | Little Things Right after Hurricane Katrina we were driving into town. My husband noticed the home of an elderly couple that had a large tree down, cutting off the driveway. We had not met them before, but had noticed them in their yard at times previously. So we stopped to check and see if they were ok. They were fine, which we were really relieved to learn. But the phone lines were down of course and they could not contact their family in Illinois to let them know they made it thru the storm ok. Since we were going to be heading out of the disaster area soon to pick up supplies, & thus able to phone out, we just naturally offered to contact their family and to pass on the message to them. The couple were so surprised & grateful we would do that for them, but we could not imagine not helping! We made contact with their family and they too were happy to get the update. | Photo Caption: This was our yard, looking into the once was forest.
